In the absence of conflict, we are mostly not aware of peace. We focus on the small things in our lives. Our hopes and wishes, and how to achieve their fulfillment. But during times of war, everything changes, and life itself becomes fragile. People living under the clouds of war face loss. Unimaginable loss. It is beyond comprehension to think how a parent survives the deaths of their small children to the violence of war. How you cope with seeing your child’s tender limbs ripped from their bodies. How you comfort a daughter, raped by invading soldiers. To feel the you have failed in the one duty you believe you have as a parent: to protect your children; your family. War is that fear. The fear that you will lose everything you have and that you are powerless to prevent it. At times like these, wartime prayers are for peace. For the conflict to end, to be free of fear.
