Lesley takes great delight in making commissioned works. The process involved in a commission is straightforward. It begins with a phone call, or email exchange. Lesley will ask you for your ideas, preferences, and any specific details that you would like included in your commission. She will also help firm up the size of painting you are looking for, any deadline (birthday, anniversary, etc.) and whether you want the piece framed, or unframed.
Lesley prefers to paint from her own photographs and reference materials, but understands that sometimes this is not possible. If using photos you have supplied, Lesley will discuss suitability of images (resolution, clarity, lighting.) She will only proceed with the commission if she feels that she has suitable imagery.
Once the details of the commission have been agreed, a 50% non-refundable deposit of the agreed portrait cost is required. Due to the rising frequency of cybercrime, Lesley can only accept payment by direct bank transfer. The balance of the fee is paid upon completion of the commission. Should you wish Lesley to travel a distance that requires overnight accommodation, travel expenses may be necessary as an additional fee.
Please allow several months for the completion of your painting, with more time needed for pieces of increased complexity. Because Lesley works in oils, time must also be allowed for her paintings to dry adequately, so that they can be shipped safely. This should be taken into consideration when asking for a painting by a certain deadline.
Lesley will require a valid shipping address, and the commission will be shipped once full payment of fees has taken place. She will arrange to have your painting insured and delivered. Lesley is not responsible for any import taxes due on the shipment.
