When we talk about bees, we tend to focus on honeybees as being vital to pollination and our survival, but the fact is there's a whole world of other bees that are just as, if not more important to the natural world. Bumblebees are great pollinators, because they're such messy eaters. This painting pays tribute to bumblebees, which represent, amongst other things, the importance of community. They love to spend time in the purple foxgloves, in our garden. The beautiful foxglove symbolises bravery and achieving one's goals. There are many interpretations of the symbolism of a ram's skull but, in this case, I have used it to mean leadership and determination. In this painting, we see the meeting of two queens, on equal terms, ready to build a community.
