Nurture continues the theme I introduced in my previous painting, 'Nest'. The halo is once more made of dying hydrangea flowers, whose blossoms represent abundance and gratitude. Hydrangea flowers are amazing, because they turn so many beautiful vibrant colors before they become brown. I love painting them. In 'Nurture", Ayda holds a floating nest between her hands. I chose to float the nest, rather than have it sit in her hands, because I want to say that our nest, our home, can so easily float away, and we must nurture it with care and respect. The eggs from the nest sit inside the figure, because eggs represent rebirth and renewal, and the circle of life, and we must internalize this understanding and carry it within ourselves if we are to live in harmony with nature.
