I’ve been searching for a way to express the sheer complexity of our relationship with the earth, and also how multilayered nature and, thereby climate change, is in reality. I found the only way to do this was to return to the surrealism I have painted in the past, so that I could weave together disparate elements that don’t seem connected. This is the first of a series of small paintings, called ‘In My Mind’. I’m naming the series in this way because, in our heads, we too often look for simple answers and ignore complexity. We forget that we are part of nature – that it weaves through us, because we’re living inside our heads.
